We had some weeks off before getting back to our routines, so our idea was to spend some days in one of those dream New York beaches (yeah, we were totally thinking of the Hamptons, until we saw the hotel prices during High season). Those beautiful beaches will definitely have to wait.
August is that month to escape from the city. But not if that city is New York: this place makes it hard for you to want to get away from it. It always have something new to offer, and that’s usually even better than you expected. This week I’ve double confirmed that: with its public Library network and with its own city beaches. Because August is about books and beaches, isn´t it?
To own my NYC Public Library card. Wow, I don’t think I have a more precious membership at this moment. To be able to access to a magnificient Library network and a book catalogue impossible to cover. A whole literature and resources world at my hand seems like a dream. We all have heard about the emblematic main building Library in the Five Avenue, but what I didn’t expect was the access to dozens of libraries across the city full of hidden stories to read and new disciplines to learn. Thousands of corridors in which to spend hours.
And up to fifty books at a time! that seems crazy (and wonderful). Since I’m not utopian, I started by grabbing 3: a Fiction one (Secret lives of mothers and daughters, which I found perfect for this August in the city), another non-fiction which I finished reading yesterday and I loved (Return from Russia) and a third one whith recipes from Jamie Oliver, which I honestly haven’t opened yet. One step at a time (someday I will finally get into the cooking world).
Went to Coney Island was a direct way to confirm that we didn’t have to go to the Hamptons if we were longing for beautiful beaches. We went there once in 2017, when living in New York during a Fall, but then we thought the beaches there would be overcrowded during Summer. By coming back there last weekend we realized we were totally wrong. Long beautiful and clean beaches were willing to welcoming new yorkers. And getting here is so easy by metro (just an hour from our home). Next time, we’ll come back with swimsuits.
But our mission in Coney Island this time had a name: The Cyclone, the wooden century-old roller coaster that we were so keen to riding again. Described like this seem to be like a nice and tranquil ride? well, it’s not. Pure adrenaline. And in one of those once-in-a-lifetime coincidences we got the from row. An unforgetteable experience. Please, next time you come to New York save some time for Coney Island and have a ride on this rolen coaster. Then you tell me about it.
Tomorrow we’re leaving our hotel life and we will (finally) settle in our apartment. I’m looking forward to show you The (new) Spaniel Studio in New York. Next week, I promise.
Thanks for being there. Next week, more ♥
