María in New York

Ten years ago today I married the love of my life on a beautiful autumn day that, of course, I remember as if it were yesterday. I had a guess that it would be the happiest day of my life (it was), but what I didn't know is that happiness with Fernando would be greater the more years we were married (not less, as some would have us believe). Nor that I would love him more every day. Literally. So today is a special day that we'll celebrate in a special way. The good thing about knowing that we're going to live long in New York is that we are not in a hurry to see this, visit that or try those things  "you can't miss" in this city. Because there were places I was eager not that much to discover as to return to. With time and without haste. And Brooklyn was one of those. Surely you know Dumbo and that street photographed a thousand times with the brick buildings framing the Manhattan Bridge in the background -hotspot of influencers- but that's only the famous face of one of the most vibrant and charming neighborhoods[...]

September is my very favorite month. I like everything about it: its new beginnings, its weather, the light introducing fall, the one that makes everything more beautiful. Fernando and I got married in September: this 24th will be our 10 anniversary. So this September 2021, in New York, will be truly special.It's already starting to feel like the new season, and Fall in New York (just by saying it sounds good) is something unique. You could call it a tropical storm but it pretty much remainded me of a summer storm, one of those that looks like the sky is going to fall but only for a while. Henri hit hard on Saturday in Manhattan, but not as hard as my Family feared from Spain when they say the news there. They got relaxed once I sent them some videos.The thing is that over the weekend we canceled plans and lunch with friends because of the alerts on my cell phone. And finally, at home. After almost a month (26 days to be precise) since our arrival in New York, we were so looking forward to settling into what will be our new home in this amazing city. Entering last Saturday into our apartment was one of those memorable moments that we'll keep. I'm writing this post from my hotel room while outside one of those Summer thunderstorms is falling down. I love Summer storms: the smell of the rain, the color of the streets, and the refreshing sensation it leaves behind. And here in New York is not an exception (of course is not). To have a dream and make it come true. That's the incredible feeling I've got during the last 9 days, when I landed with Fernando and Porthos to the JFK in a foogy but still (to me) beautiful day that I won't ever forget. 5 years ago Fernando and I decided, while walking the Camino De Santiago in Spain (an awesome experience I totally recommend you) that we would try to live and work in the United States.
