My first Thanksgiving

I think we all agree that if there’s something truly American is Thanksgiving. And secretly from Spain we’ve always envied this tradition, if only because of the way those delicious turkeys always look in the movies. I remember an assignment Brooks Brothers gave me in 2019 for a Thanksgiving dinner they were going to replicate at a fancy restaurant in Madrid, Horcher (that I totally recommend you if you plan to visit my country. Save some money first, though). And all the guests -celebs, of course- were ecstatic and happy taking pictures next to the turkey in their particular Spanish Thanksgiving. Just as I said, we envy you, America.

That’s why one of the dates I first thought of when I first knew we were coming to live in New York was this one. I was going to live it firsthand, and of course I would happily get into the role. And since I have my family in Spain, we celebrated it like in Friends, with people who make you feel at home. Turkey, great food & wine and fabulous company. This first Thanksgiving I lived yesterday was memorable, and I won’t forget it. Thanks María and Manuel for being such great hosts.

Hi Papa Smurf!

It officially begins Holiday Season here, with Thanksgiving as the kick-off to Christmas. And it’s starting to look like Disneyworld (which I’ve never been to in my life, but you know, I’m just guessing). Madison Avenue and Fifth Avenue seem to be competing to see who can put up the most spectacular lights and decorations, and slowly but surely the mood is coming. Christmas in New York is approaching, those magic days that so many people ask me if I’m going to live here.

If the Carolina Herrera store is always beautiful, it is even more so at Christmas time

And yes, Fernando and I decided some time ago that if there was ever a year to experience a New York Christmas it had to be this one. And since I’m traveling in a couple of weeks to Spain for a brand commission, I’ll take the opportunity to be with family & friends to enjoy them before returning to my home, which is now here (basically, like the song, ‘home is wherever I’m with you‘, being ‘you’ Fernando). I gave you last week a hint on the brand that hired me: today I’m revealing it to you, my dear readers of María in New York. I am thrilled with this work.
