Some of you have been with me since I launched The Spaniel Studio in September 2019, a few months before the cursed year (indeed, if by dedicating myself to weddings and events I have overcome 2020, I see myself capable of almost anything). You know that from the very beginning my business has had international projection, and I’ve always had an eye on the United States, my particular promised land. But having achieved the dream – because New York may be called the capital of the promised land – was only the beginning of the new American stage of The Spaniel Studio. It was necessary to attract new clients, couples, brands that wanted to bet on a Spanish calligrapher who had just arrived in New York. And I can now confirm: this is a land of opportunities, I couldn’t have imagined to what extent.
That’s why I thought that this week, instead of inviting you to join me outside, I would like to invite you inside, to my studio in the Big Apple, where I spend the most hours and where I am tremendously happy.
My days start with an early morning walk with Porthos along the East River, which after 4 months I still can’t get used to. In summer it’s the perfect walk, in autumn it’s even better. The streak will probably end in Winter, when we’d have to look for an uglier but more secluded route (the beauty you know, for when the weather’s nice again). When we arrived in New York a friend recommended me to take a picture of the same place at different times of the year to see the evolution. I think I could make a short film with the amount of photos I have of these walks.
And then, a second coffee and let’s get to work: wedding invitations, Christmas cards, vows booklets, ornaments, place cards, envelope addressing. And my clients now, instead of being called Cristina, Teresa, Elena or other Spanish names, have mainly American names: Kimberly, Vanessa, Katrina, Jordan. And I just love it.
And the jobs with brands are also going ahead here and there, and that’s probably one of the things I’m most excited about (among other things, because it allows me to have a pretext to travel to my beloved country). In 3 weeks I’ll travel to Madrid for a job that is a dream and of which I will soon give you more details. A hint: blue.
Adelante, come on in. You’re very welcome to The Spaniel Studio in New York ♥
